Qatar wins the Regional Chair for (Young Leaders in Diabetes)

The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) which is organizing a Diabetes Congress running now in Vancouver from 30 November to 4 December 2015, they elected a Qatari leader in diabetes Mohamed Khalid Al-Saadi from Qatar Diabetes Association – as a Regional Chair for the Middle East and North Africa Region/ IDF

Mr. Al-Saadi also is the Diabetes Ambassador in Qatar and the region.

With the aim to improve the lives of young people affected by diabetes worldwide, the (Young Leaders in Diabetes) program’s come to the light.

This dream became a reality in Dubai 2011 and now is the voice for young people affected by diabetes worldwide.

The Young Leaders are committed to raising awareness of diabetes by being a powerful voice for prevention, education, access to quality care, improved quality of life, and the end of discrimination worldwide. The YLD program supports the International Diabetes Federation in reaching its strategic plans.

The Young Leaders in Diabetes Program is governed by the YLD Executive Council (with 7 members) and YLD Regional Council (with 14 members)

The Regional Council has 14 members elected from the 7 regions of the IDF. Each 2 years in the Diabetes Congress they elect a new president.

The main tasks of the YLD Regional Council are to centralize all the information about the Young Leaders in Diabetes Program, organizing meetings and strengthen the links between the IDF’s regional chapter and the Young Leaders in the respective region. Their main activities are organizing diabetes camps, walkathons and cycling for diabetes, social evenings and speaking on national TVs.

Currently there are 132 Young Leaders acting on diabetes all around the world.
