Self Monitoring Blood Glucose

Monitoring your blood glucose plays a major role in your diabetes management.  It’s one of the best ways to keep track of how well your diabetes care plan is working. By checking regularly, the level of glucose in your blood you can figure out what happens to your blood glucose level when you eat certain foods, or do certain exercises or activities. It may alert you to eat a snack and thus avoid low blood glucose, or it will prompt you to take more insulin or do more exercise to treat high blood glucose levels

Most importantly monitoring your blood glucose allows you to see how effective is your insulin or medication in controlling your diabetes 

To get a complete picture, check at

  • different times of the day
  • before you eat or exercise
  • before and 2 hours after a meal

Remember to keep a log of the results and discuss them with your medical team.
