Doha to host diabetes forum

Doha will host the second Arab Diabetes Medical Congress from November 17 to 19.

The event will be held in collaboration with Qatar Diabetes Association, Maarefah Management, Rashid Centre for Diabetes and Research, Saudi Diabetes and Endocrine Association, and Saudi Pharmaceutical Society.

The congress focuses this year on a number of important topics related to diabetes, and there will be a number of scientific lectures, workshops and panel sessions during the conference.

Experts will discuss up to date information and strategies for prevention and control of disease, detection and prevention of Type 2 diabetes, early intervention in children and adults patients, the latest developments about fat levels in blood disorder management in patients with diabetes, obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents, among other important topics to limit the spread of the disease regionally.

Dr Doaa Said, managing director, Maarefah Management, said “Diabetes complications expenditure reaches up to 11% of global expenditure on healthcare sector, which requires to develop ways to prevent and fight the disease, and to intensify efforts and research to get the appropriate treatment while working to help patients to avoid complications.”

Key speakers include Dr Abdullah al-Hamaq, executive director, Qatar Diabetes Association; Dr Mahmoud Zirie, senior consultant and head of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism department of medicine, HMC; and Eman Sadoun, chief, clinical research, Ministry of Public Health. Several other experts on the subject from Qatar and various countries in the region will also speak at the conference.
