Care of students with diabetes: In-depth review and latest technology updates

 

Overall objectives
By the end of this workshop the nurse will be able to:

o   Describe diabetes management components and develop skills for optimal diabetes care at schools.

o   Acquire an in-depth understanding of the latest technologies in glucose monitoring.

o   Explain key components of automated insulin delivery systems and acquire the skills needed to assist students using insulin pumps.

o   Critically assess the risks of diabetes emergency situations and take timely action to prevent them.

o   List the responsibilities as defined by the relevant regulatory bodies and develop individualized medical plan.

–       Analyze the causes and conditions leading to hypoglycemic events at school

 

–       Deliver a glucagon injection.

–       Prepare an individualized plan for students with diabetes to manage and prevent hypoglycemia.
