Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi has issued a ministerial decision setting up a committee for monitoring school canteens.

The committee will be chaired by director of health and safety department at the Ministry. A representative from the same department will be the deputy chairman of the committee.

The committee will approve the rules for management of school canteens, price list, and the procedures for selection of food suppliers.

It will also ensure whether the food items meet the health requirements. The committee will approve the mechanism for monitoring the canteens and recommend appropriate punishments for suppliers flouting the rules.

The committee members will include representatives from the school affairs department and private schools affairs department at the Ministry, Ministry of Municipality and Environment and nutrition specialists from the Ministry of Public Health, General Authority for Standards and Specification and Qatar Diabetes Association.
